The honey
Vitex honey is produced by honey bees gathering nectar from natural wild Vitex flowers within the ecological conservation zone of Miyun Reservoir. The flowering period lasts from June to July, and the naturally ripened Vitex honey is harvested in early August each year after thorough maturation by the honey bees. Its Baumé density exceeds 42.5°, and it is rich in salicylic acid 2-O-β-D-glucoside (SAG). The Vitex honey has a rich yet refreshing aroma, pronounced antioxidant activity, and is the signature honey variety of the Miyun region.
The beekeeping
The apiary is located in Beijing, China, adjacent to Miyun Reservoir, with centralized management of over 2000 bee colonies, including over 300 colonies of Apis cerana (Chinese honey bees), which employs a multi-hive body beekeeping system under unified management, production, and standardization. It is designated as a mature honey production and research demonstration base by the Institute of Apicultural Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The apiary is led by Jinliang Liu, recognized as a "Native Forestry and Grassland Expert" by China's National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
