Fi2, Wildflower honey from Lingonberry
The honey
Thanks to its special toffee odour and its reddish colour, lingonberry honey can easily be recognized even from the honeycombs in the hive. It has liquid consistency. Its odour remains toffee or apricot and the taste is slightly acidic and has flavour of toffee, caramel or exotic fruits.
Approximate date of extraction: Lingonberry honey is harvested in July, so it is not mixed with other honey varieties. Honey nectar sources: Vaccinium species, mainly V. vitis-idaea Traditional uses of the honey: Because of its rarity and special flavor this honey is valuated as a delicacy or as a gift. The beekeeping
As retired persons, we can concentrate on beekeeping. With my wife Helena, we are maintaining about 20 beehives in Muhos, Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland. In this area winter is long, but during the short summer we are able to collect many different kinds of honey varieties full of flavor.
Our honeybees are pollinating the berries of our berry farm. Honeybees are collecting lingonberry honey from forests in Muhos, where lingonberry is a common wild berry. In summer 2025, honey yield was exceptionally good in our area. Our lingonberry honey has been chosen as the best honey in Finland for six times and in addition, it was awarded with a silver medal in the Apimondia’s World's Best Honey competition in Istanbul, Turkey. |
