The honey
Summer honey, also known as meadow honey or wildflower honey, is the very one that comes to mind to a Lithuanian person when we hear the word “honey.” With its classic golden color, medium sweetness, a hint of herbal spiciness, and a wonderfully balanced, complex aroma.
Lithuanian meadows, shaped over centuries, not only provide shelter for countless species of plants, insects, and farmland birds, but also give us one of the finest traditional Lithuanian desserts - curd cheese served with fresh summer honey. The complexity of this honey’s taste and aroma also hints at its rich nutritional and medicinal properties, due to a large variety of native nectariferous plants. Aroma: layered bouquet of meadow blossoms with gentle herbal and woody undertones. Taste: medium sweetness, well-balanced with subtle spiciness and floral depth. Texture: thick, medium-grained, pleasantly dense. The beekeeping
Having started beekeeping back in the days of collective gardens (also called allotments) with a gifted swarm, Petras Daunoras now, 40 years later, inspires others.
His daughter Ilona, who has held the role of the assistant since childhood, is now a serious beekeeper in her own right. She brought her experience working with children to their joint activity — "Daunorų bitynas" has become open to the public. Here, visitors of all ages, from the very young to seniors, are introduced to the process of honey production, from flower to jar, through educational programs. |
