In the northern Sierra of Oaxaca, San Felipe Usila rises within the lush bosque de niebla, or foggy forest, one of the most biodiverse and fragile ecosystems of Mexico. Wrapped in mist, the landscape is alive with orchids, ferns, bromeliads, and towering trees that provide an extraordinary range of nectar sources for bees.
The constant humidity and altitude create a microclimate where beekeeping takes on a different rhythm, following the forest’s intricate balance of rain and bloom. Beekeepers Ramiro José Sánchez and Rocío García tend their hives within this living tapestry, where each harvest reflects the complexity of a forest that captures clouds and transforms them into life. In San Felipe Usila, honey is not only a product of nature—it is a mirror of the ecosystem itself, carrying the flavors of the mist, the flowers, and the guardians of the forest.
