In the highlands of Puebla, autumn transforms the landscape of Grajales with the blooming of mozote or acahual (Bidens odorata), painting the fields in shades of yellow and white. This seasonal burst of flowers not only colors the land but also becomes an abundant nectar source for local beekeeping, sustaining honey production during a crucial time of the year.
Here, the semi-arid ecosystem is shaped by maguey, nopal, and scattered cacti, where wildlife such as rabbits and kestrels coexist with mostly agoroecological practices. For over a decade, beekeeper Margarita Huerta has followed the rhythm of these flowers, moving her hives from the orange blossom season during Spring time, to the highlands in the Autumn, portraying the balance between biodiversity and rural livelihoods. |
