Kāmahi honey
The honey
The Kāmahi Tree usually flowers in late October through to December makes it the first honey we harvest every season.
Kāmahi Honey has a smooth, soft texture, like the creamy blossoms of the Kāmahi tree, this is a sophisticated, elegant honey. After many friendly debates and taste tests, our team thinks that Kamahi honey is also the best sugar replacement in coffee, giving the brew a sweet hit and enhancing the flavour. Being a fragrant honey, it pairs deliciously with fresh fruit and creamy white mould cheeses, such as Brie and Camembert. The ideal accompaniment to a cheese platter. Kāmahi honey also makes a great base to sweet sauces, whilst being a perfect balancer for spicy dishes, such as Thai food. History - Kāmahi is a Māori name. Māori understood the value of the Kamahi tree, seeing it as tapu, or sacred. They boiled the bark to make a treatment for flu and colds. It was also used for wounds and burns as the inner bark has antibacterial properties. The bark of the Kāmahi tree can also be used used to make a black dye. In fact, early settlers to New Zealand valued the Kāmahi as an effective agent in tanning leather. Harvested December 2024 Extraction 9th January 2025 first of our honeys extracted this season. The beekeeping
Mountain Valley Honey is a small family-owned business. Our beekeeping team is led by owner Matthew Goldsworthy and wife Sarah Goldsworthy manages Sales and Extraction/Packing team. Our Team & Our hives are cared for by our fantastic, tight-knit team. They are great people who are fun to work with, good at what they do, and very much appreciated.
We go to great lengths to find the very best locations for our bees to forage – from high in the mountains and deep in valleys of remote native forests, right across the top of the South Island. We have a total of 2,500 hives across Marlborough, Nelson and West Coast. Being able to harvest, extract, pack and distribute means we are hands on with our product all the way through, enabling us to deliver the best we can to the customer. Pure, wild and beautiful. Our honey is raw, unpasteurized and uncreamed - just like nature intended. Contact: Mountain Valley Honey Sarah Goldsworthy +64212740235 [email protected] |
