Sw1, Island Honey from Djurö
The honey
This honey is harvested at the end of July. The bee yard was also extracted mid June, thus the nectar sources are from within this period. It is hard to identify what the nectar sources are.
It is the first time ever we have gotten any honey during this period in this or nearby bee yards. The most probable sources are honeydew from different trees such as pine and spruce. The batch in total is 5 kg and the water content is 18 %. The Beekeeping
Our honey represents Sweden as "Honey from an Island". The bee yard of two hives is situated on the island of Djurö, in the archipelago of Stockholm. The conditions for bees in this area are rough. The spring begins later, it is a little colder and there are limited nectar sources. Historically a harvest of 5 kg per hive per year is considered a good harvest.
The hives are taken care of by us, two young beekeepers, Elin Winther and Kristian Larsen. We have been beekeeping for 8 years. Together we run the company Vindö Biodling with in total 83 hives divided into 14 bee yards scattered across the two Swedish municipalities Nacka and Värmdö. In addition to honey production, we also sell nucs and beekeeping equipment. Follow us on instagram @vindobi. |
