Traditional uses: Consumed as food, often eaten with bread Used as a natural sweetener in foods and beverages such as juices. Applied in traditional medicine for treating wounds, coughs, and other ailments. Fermented to make local beer. The beekeeping
Honey was harvested at the Mwambao Bee Farm, located in Handeni District, Tanga Region. The farm is owned and managed by the Tanzania Forest Services Agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. The area is mainly characterized by Miombo–Acacia woodland forests and shrubs, with comparatively high plant diversity.
The shrubs and herbs in the area flower at different seasons of the year, providing continuous forage for honeybees. The herbaceous cover is dominated by species such as Bidens tripartita, Bidens pilosa, Commelina africana and Bapharis linarifolia. Most of these plants produce nectar, pollen, or both, making the area highly suitable for beekeeping. This particular honey was harvested during the flowering season of Bidens species. |
